How to Renew Your CSCS Card During Coronavirus?

How to Renew Your CSCS Card During Coronavirus?

Due to Covid-19 and the necessity to social distance, at FaCT (Fencing and Construction Training) we have converted many of our training programmes to online courses over the past months. While in the past it’s been the norm to visit training centres to renew CSCS cards, construction and fencing workers may find visiting centres in person a struggle at the moment.

How to renew your CSCS card

If your CSCS card is due to expire, you still need to renew it. One of the primary requirements for all CSCS card applicants is proof that they have passed the relevant CITB Health, Safety and Environment test within the past two years.

Some CITB test centres started reopening with social distancing measures in place on May 18th, so it’s worth looking up your local test centre and trying to book a test. However, test centres are likely to be busy due to limited test slots and the backlog of construction workers needing to renew their cards, so finding availability may prove difficult.

As well as looking at how to renew, CSCS cardholders should be considering taking advantage of one of the extensions that CSCS have given to cardholders during this period, including extensions to SMSTS and SSSTS certificates and First Aid training courses that have expired since March 15th.

How to renew your CSCS card online

If you’re considering how to renew CSCS card online, this will depend on whether your CITB testing is up to date. If you’ve passed the CITB test online in the past two years, you can apply easily to renew your CSCS card online here. This doesn’t take long and simply requires applicants to register their details on the CSCS website.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to take your CITB test online, but test centres across the UK are now open and workers with CSCS cards due to expire soon can book their next test either online or over the phone.

For those applicants who can’t yet get a spot at a test centre, the CSCS has extended the grace period for card renewals to 12 months, meaning that cards can be renewed once the CITB HS&E test has been passed for up to a year after expiry.
