Post Driver Training: Ensuring Safety And Productivity
Any fencer who uses post drivers must be trained and competent under the Health & Safety at Work Act and PUWER. FaCT are able to deliver this training in a flexible way to meet your need, delivered either at our training centre in Worcestershire or by delivering it at your venue on your machine.
There are several different types of mechanical post-driving machines, including:
- Self-Propelled Post Drivers
- Lorry-mounted post drivers
- Excavator-mounted post drivers
- Handheld post drivers
How To Use A Fence Post Driver
At FaCT, we offer half-day internal courses and a full-day aL antra-approved training and assessed course aimed at agricultural workers, VRS installers, and general boundary fencing installers. The course material covers everything that a worker needs to know to use a fence post driver safely and effectively, including general machine knowledge, hazard and risk awareness, personal protective equipment (PPE), equipment troubleshooting, machine preparation and best practices, and the appropriate surrounding legislation, such as PUWER and the Health & Safety at Work Act.
Why Invest In Post-driver Training For Your Team?
- Health and safety: worker safety is the most critical consideration when it comes to heavy machinery such as fence post drivers. In some cases, workplace accidents involving post drivers can cause life-altering injuries or even death, so training ensures that each operator understands how to operate their equipment safely and sustain a safe work site for themselves and their colleagues. Training also includes understanding the correct type of PPE to use and how to recognise and avoid potential hazards.
- Minimise damage to posts and utilities: when operating a mechanical post driver, operators must be extremely mindful of potential impact damage to posts, other equipment, and underground utilities. A lack of awareness arising from inadequate training can result in severe damage to these structures, leading to delays and additional expenses in project completion.
- Increased productivity: trained post driver operators are simply better equipped to work more efficiently and confidently with their machine, leading to increased productivity and output. A trained operator can complete his or her task with greater speed and accuracy, raising the overall quality of the fence installation. If multiple team members are trained at the same time, it can encourage general sharing of best practices and learning between colleagues, further enhancing team productivity and collaboration.
- Reduced downtime: downtime is a construction project’s worst enemy, with any unexpected breakdown or accident leading to costly delays and potential operational losses. Post driver training can help operators troubleshoot common issues before they result in downtime, perform routine maintenance on site, and respond quickly and effectively to any breakdown. Post driver training gives operators the skills to effectively communicate the issues faced with their team leader.
