What is the difference between a FISS CSCS card and a CSCS card?
The difference between the FISS CSCS and CSCS is that the FISS CSCS is a card that is specific to the fencing industry. It is a CSCS card and is recognised by both the construction and fencing industries and will be accepted on sites in both industries.
Why do I need a FISS CSCS card or a CSCS card?
The FISS CSCS or CSCS card is now a requirement on all construction sites.
Are there different cards for different jobs?
There are five levels (colours) to the FISS CSCS and CSCS cards.
First Time FISS CSCS cards or Upgrades
FaCT can deliver the whole spectrum of FISS course training included in the requirements for each FISS CSCS card. We can also provide training for first time Green CSCS renewals and the touchscreen tests for all levels of CSCS card.
First Time CSCS cards or Upgrades
FaCT can deliver training for the green CSCS card. However, we cannot deliver training for blue CSCS cards and above. We can facilitate renewals of all levels/colours of CSCS cards at our Birmingham and Manchester training centres.
Renewal
FaCT can deliver each different FISS course which is required to renew the different levels of FISS CSCS cards. We can also deliver the CSCS course for the green card. Our test centres in Birmingham and Manchester can provide the touchscreen test for all levels of FISS CSCS and CSCS card.

Green FISS CSCS or CSCS card – Labourer

The green FISS CSCS or CSCS card is only for labourers who are working with a blue cardholder (Skilled Installer or Skilled Worker).
To obtain this card a candidate must attend a Health and Safety training course and successfully complete an exam to gain the Level 1 Award in Health and safety in a Construction Environment. To gain the Green FISS CSCS or CSCS card the candidate must also pass the Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives (touchscreen).

FISS CSCS or CSCS Renewal and Validity Period
The Green FISS CSCS Renewal and Validity – Valid for five years. To renew the card the holder must attend a health and safety training course and also pass the Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives (touchscreen). Available at our Birmingham training and test centre and our Manchester training and test centre.
The Green CSCS Renewal and Validity – Valid for five years. To renew the cardholder must pass the Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives (touchscreen). As previously mentioned, the test is available at our Birmingham training and test centre and our Manchester training and test centre.
Red FISS CSCS card – Trainee
The red FISS CSCS or CSCS card is awarded to anyone who is registered for a qualification that leads to a skilled FISS CSCS or CSCS card.
Candidates must attend the health and safety training course and successfully complete the Health Safety and Environment test for operatives (touchscreen).
**NOTE** If you’re training for a Black or Gold FISS CSCS you will also need to complete an SSSTS or SMSTS course.

FISS CSCS or CSCS Renewal and Validity Period
The Red FISS CSCS Renewal and Validity – Valid for three years and cannot be renewed. Upon completion of the qualification the red FISS CSCS card is upgraded to the level of card that is appropriate.
The Red CSCS Renewal and Validity – Valid for five years and cannot be renewed. Upon completion of the qualification the red CSCS card is upgraded to the level of card that is appropriate.

Blue FISS CSCS or CSCS card- Skilled Fence Installer or Skilled Worker
The blue FISS CSCS or CSCS card is for skilled installers or skilled workers.
The blue FISS course requires the applicant to complete the Level 2 Diploma in Fencing, which involves a number of on-site assessment. In addition to attending a health and safety course and passing the Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives (touchscreen).
FaCT can also facilitate the renewal of both the FISS CSCS and CSCS blue cards.

FISS CSCS or CSCS Renewal and Validity Period
The Blue FISS CSCS Renewal and Validity – Valid for five years. To renew the card the holder must have a health and safety course and also have completed the Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives (touchscreen) within the two years prior to the renewal application.
The Blue CSCS Renewal and Validity – Valid for five years. To renew a blue CSCS card the holder must have completed the Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives (touchscreen) within the two years prior to the renewal application. As previously mentioned, the test is available at our Birmingham training and test centre and our Manchester training and test centre.

Gold FISS CSCS or CSCS card- Supervisor or Lead Installer
The gold FISS CSCS or CSCS card is for supervisors and lead installers.
The gold FISS course requires the applicant to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Fencing. In addition to this, they must complete a site supervisor’s safety training scheme (SSSTS) and also the Health, Safety and Environment test for supervisors (touchscreen).
FaCT can also facilitate the renewal of both the FISS CSCS and CSCS cards.

FISS CSCS or CSCS Renewal and Validity Period
The Gold FISS CSCS Card Renewal and Validity – Valid for five years. To renew the gold card the holder must have an SSSTS certificate that is less than two years old and also have passed the Health, Safety and Environment test for supervisors (touchscreen) within the previous two years.
The Gold CSCS Renewal and Validity – Valid for five years. To renew the gold card the holder must complete the Health, Safety and Environment test for supervisors (touchscreen). As previously mentioned, the test is available at our Birmingham training and test centre and our Manchester training and test centre.

Black FISS CSCS or CSCS Card- Manager
The black FISS CSCS or CSCS card is for managers.
The black FISS card requires the applicant to complete the Level 5 Diploma in Principles of Leadership and Management. In addition to this they must complete the Site Management Safety Scheme (SMSTS) and also the Health, Safety and Environment test for managers (touchscreen).

FISS CSCS or CSCS Renewal and Validity Period
The Black FISS CSCS Renewal and Validity – Valid for five years. To renew the black card the holder must have a Site Management Safety Scheme certificate (SMSTS) that is less than two years old and also have passed the Health, Safety and Environment test for managers within the previous two years.
The Black CSCS Renewal and Validity– Valid for five years. To renew the black card the holder must complete the Health, Safety and Environment test for managers (touchscreen). As previously mentioned, the test is available at our Birmingham training and test centre and our Manchester training and test centre.

Green FISS card – Labourer
ONE of the following qualifications is necessary to be awarded or renew a Green FISS CSCS card:
-Level 1 Health, Safety and Environmental in a Construction Environment (First Application).
-Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness: Fencing AHAS003 (Renewals).
-CITB – Site Safety Plus Health & Safety Awareness
-IOSH – Working Safely
Passing the below test is also a requirement:
-Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives (touchscreen). Available at our Birmingham and Manchester training and test centres.
Red FISS card – Trainee
The following requirements must be met:
-Applicants must be registers onto a qualification and working towards achieving this qualification – Applicants for the VRS Trainee Red Card only must successfully complete the NHSS 10B VRS Foundation course (within two years prior to application)
-Successfully complete the Lantra Awards Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness: Fencing Course (those registered on level 2) or Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) or Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course for Supervisors and Managers (those registered on level 3 or 5) or equivalent
Passing the below test is also a requirement:
-Health, Safety and Environment (touchscreen) at the appropriate level. Available at our Birmingham and Manchester training and test centres.
Blue FISS card – Skilled Installer
ONE of the following courses is necessary to advance to or renew a Blue FISS CSCS card:
-Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness: Fencing AHAS003.
-IOSH Supervising Health & Safety
-SOLAS
or any course at a higher level
Passing the below test is also a requirement:
-Health, Safety and Environment test for operatives (touchscreen). Available at our Birmingham and Manchester training and test centres.
Gold FISS card – Lead Installer
ONE of the following courses is necessary to advance to or renew a Gold FISS CSCS card:
-CITB – Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)
-IOSH – Supervising Health & Safety
Or any course at a higher level
Passing the below test is also a requirement:
-Health, Safety and Environment test for supervisors (touchscreen). Available at our Birmingham and Manchester training and test centres.
Black FISS card – Manager
ONE of the following courses is necessary to advance to or renew a Black FISS CSCS card:
-CITB Site Management Safety Training (SMSTS).
-IOSH Managing Health & Safety
-IOSH Directing Health and Safety
-NEBOSH
Passing the below test is also a requirement:
-Health, Safety and Environment test for managers (touchscreen). Available at our Birmingham and Manchester training and test centres.
