CITB Health and Safety Awareness Course
The Health and Safety Awareness course is part of the CITB Site Safety Plus programme of courses. It is suitable for anyone who has or is soon to join the construction industry as a member of the workforce. The course aims to increase the understanding of the risks and hazards that the worker will face on site. The training is endorsed by Build UK as the standard requirement for all operatives.
How long is the qualification valid for?
The Health and Safety Awareness certification is valid for five years. To remain qualified, you must complete the course again before the expiry date.
You must attend the full day of training and successfully complete the multiple-choice test to pass the course. You must also have a good understanding of written and spoken English and photographic ID.

How can I progress?
The natural progression route is to attend the SSSTS course which is for supervisors and then the SMSTS course which is for managers.
The course content
- Provides a summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues.
- Identifies the participants responsibility for ensuring the H&S of themselves and others.
- Makes the candidate aware of their own duties and responsibilities and additionally those of employers.
- Makes the candidate aware of what to do if H&S is at risk.
